love triangle

when eric has cabin fever

People have been talking about this past weekend in Austin with the film festival and a couple of my shows. Read Toni, and Jette.

Oh, and I added a new search feature to the site. You can see it from the main page.

As I mentioned yesterday Eric was sick. He spent the afternoon playing Playstation games. He waited for me to get home from a company party to break out Silent Hill, the game we just can’t seem to beat. I was tired when I got home, and told him to play and I’d watch. I grabbed my book.

ERIC
What’s with the book?

PAMIE
I think it’s going to take you a while, that’s all.

ERIC
Oh, you do?

PAMIE
This “next fear” mode is really hard.

ERIC
Where are we?

PAMIE
We keep getting killed by the kid zombies in the school. I gave up.

ERIC
Just watch me.

PAMIE
Okay.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

PAMIE
See?

ERIC
First try. Give me another chance.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

PAMIE
It’s hard. I think you have to turn off your flashlight.

ERIC
I’ll be fine.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

PAMIE
Guess it’s not the flashlight.

ERIC
I’m just getting accustomed to the controller. It’s different than Metal Gear.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

PAMIE
Can we just start over?

ERIC
I don’t want to have to do all that stuff again.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

PAMIE
I just think if we started on the normal level we’d get better.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

ERIC
Okay, this is it for real this time.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

ERIC
Shit.

PAMIE
We could just start over.

ERIC
Watch, this is it, baby. Here’s the–

PAMIE
Go! Go! Go!

ERIC
Yeah, baby. That’s what I’m talking about.

PAMIE
Where are you now?

ERIC
I don’t know, there’s some sort of chemical thing.

PAMIE
Oh, yeah, you have to go next door and burn the hand for the medal.

ERIC
Right.

PAMIE
You’re doing well.

ERIC
Damn straight.

PAMIE
There’s the piano.

ERIC
Remember the keys?

PAMIE
You have to turn on that switch in the other room first.

ERIC
Isn’t that outside?

PAMIE
I can’t remember.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

ERIC
Dammit.

PAMIE
All that work.

ERIC
I think it starts you right where you were, not where you saved.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

ERIC
Or not.

PAMIE
Good luck.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

ERIC
Wanna play Scrabble?

PAMIE
Really?

ERIC
Yeah.

PAMIE
You never play Scrabble.

VIDEO GAME GUY
Aaugh!

ERIC
I could be cool with Scrabble.

PAMIE
You turned off the t.v.

ERIC
I’m really not into it.

PAMIE
Uh-huh.

Eric got out this book he’s been reading called What are the Seven Wonders of the World?. It’s a bunch of lists. He loves lists.

[scripty]
ERIC
Do you know the seven types of triangles?

PAMIE
I think so.

ERIC
I bet you don’t.

PAMIE
Equilateral, Right…

ERIC
That’s two.

PAMIE
Uh…

ERIC
You’re one.

PAMIE
Acute.

ERIC
Yes.

PAMIE
Obtuse. Scalene.

ERIC
Two more.

PAMIE
Isosceles.

ERIC
Last one.

PAMIE
I don’t know.

ERIC
I’ve never heard of it.

PAMIE
Well, are you impressed?

ERIC
Yeah, I guess.

PAMIE
You know you are.

ERIC
Ask me one.

PAMIE
But you’ve read the whole book.

ERIC
Make one up.

PAMIE
Are you kidding?

ERIC
Ask me.

PAMIE
Uh… name the seven dwarfs.

ERIC
Meany, Happy, Jokey

PAMIE
Those are smurfs.

ERIC
Doc.

PAMIE
Yeah.

ERIC
Dopey, Grumpy, Sleepy, Spazzy.

PAMIE
They kicked Spazzy out.

ERIC
Like Puck.

PAMIE
Yeah.

ERIC
That’s sad.

PAMIE
He kept eating Doc’s peanut butter.

ERIC
Want another one?

PAMIE
Yeah. I’m sleepy.

ERIC
Name the American wars.

PAMIE
Uh… Civil War, Revolutionary War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korean, Gulf– do they count Gulf?

ERIC
Yeah.

PAMIE
French and Indian?

PAMIE’S BRAIN
We could be sleeping right now.

PAMIE
ummm…

ERIC
You’re living in the result of one.

PAMIE
The war with the Alamo.

ERIC
The Mexican War.

PAMIE
I didn’t know that’s what it was called.

ERIC
And the War of 1812.

PAMIE’S BRAIN
Pillow fights.

ERIC
What?

PAMIE
Huh?

ERIC
Did you say something?

PAMIE’S BRAIN
We are trapped in a triangle. You are an obtuse triangle. You will never have a right angle.

ERIC
…of the apostles, but I always forget James the Lesser.

PAMIE
Uh-huh.

TAYLOR
If you went to sleep now I could cuddle on your leg.

PAMIE
Judas.

ERIC
Yeah.

PAMIE’S BRAIN
Hey Jude, don’t make it bad. Take a sad song and make it better.

ERIC
So I know I can’t be wrong there.

PAMIE
Walker, Texas Ranger.

ERIC
What?

PAMIE
Nothing.

PAMIE’S BRAIN
That’s it, we’re shutting down.

ERIC
You asleep?

PAMIE’S BRAIN
She can’t answer you now, so if you could leave a message, she’ll call you back.
[/scripty]

And then it was today. I wonder what I answered for the apostles…

Sidenote: I looked them up. I think I had them all. He must have made one up.
