Busta Rhymes: The Big Bang

Song: “I’ll Do It All

This is what I’ll listen to while I’m waiting on that Tribe Called Quest album and that Pharrell solo album … both of which feel like they’ll turn out to be Santa Claus.

There’s one track on here — “Cocaina” — which I don’t think I’ll be able to listen to. About halfway through the song there come these dissonant chords that are off-beat and seem to come from the middle of the speakers, and they make my stomach twist. Every time I’ve heard the song, the first time that chord strikes I look around, thinking there’s a car coming towards me honking, or a cell phone is going off, or I’ve just hit something while backing up. I can’t explain it, but the sound of the chords makes me feel seriously uneasy, like I’m in a Kubrick movie, and it makes me so uncomfortable that I have to hit forward on the track.

I don’t know if it’s because the sound is in the wrong place, or the chord is so weird (minor? i know nothing about music), but it makes me feel like something bad is about to happen or just happened.

Busta, why you fucking with me?
